Arizona State University
Arizona State University (ASU) is the largest university in the U.S. ASU also leads the nation in its commitment to sustainability, having pioneered both graduate and undergraduate sustainability degrees. ASU has established the Global Institute of Sustainability (GIOS) as the hub of Arizona State University’s sustainability initiatives. Mr. Butterfield serves on the board of GIOS.
Hummingbird and ASU have signed a Letter of Intent to build a 2.4MW urban biomass CHP facility on the ASU campus at Tempe, the first of its kind in North America. Under the terms of the Letter, ASU will become a shareholder in Hummingbird Energy LLC.

Hummingbird has partnered with Hunt as general contractor for the urban biomass facility at Arizona State University, and on an ongoing basis as Hummingbird expands nationwide. As a member of the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), Hunt maintains a team of construction professionals who are Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design (LEED®) accredited, and well-versed in assisting Hummingbird with achieving certification for environmentally sustainable construction projects, and proficient with the USGBC’s LEED® certification process.

Schuff Steel
Founded in 1976, Schuff International, Inc. is headquartered in Phoenix, and with its family of companies is the largest steel fabricator in the United States. Their group consists of four business units spread across diverse steel markets. Schuff International, Inc. operates 13 plants in total, located in California, Arizona, Texas, Kansas, Georgia and Florida.
Hummingbird is working with Schuff for the delivery of the building framework, selected equipment, and rigging. Schuff operates nationwide and Schuff founder and chairman Dave Schuff has taken a personal interest in assisting Hummingbird with its expansion plans. With most of Schuff’s projects exceeding 90% in recycled content, they are a natural choice for meeting requirements as a LEED project.

Arrington-Watkins Architects
Arrington-Watkins Architects was founded in 1994 in Phoenix, Arizona and serves primarily industrial and institutional clients throughout the United States. Mr. Arrington is personally in charge of the Hummingbird project, including the prototype design. The firm is licensed to practise in most states in the U.S. and has the ability to design LEED certified facilities across the nation. Arrington-Watkins has a long relationship with both Hunt Construction and Schuff Steel. These relationships make the Hunt, Schuff, and Arrington-Watkins team the ideal partners to assist Hummingbird’s aggressive growth targets.
